Clione vs Search Atlas. A full SEO suite, and a catalog that ships in the HTML.

Search Atlas is an SEO suite for teams and agencies; its agent, OTTO, deploys technical, on-page and schema fixes through a JavaScript pixel. Clione works only on the catalog, and publishes through your platform's API into the HTML your server sends, then reads the live page back. If you need the whole SEO toolkit, start there. If you need the catalog legible to machines, start here.

The verdict

Pick Search Atlas if you want one SEO suite for the whole site, and the work done for you: an agent that runs on autopilot or with your approval, backlink analysis, local SEO, digital PR and LLM visibility tracking, priced for small teams and agencies, with white label on the higher plans. Plans start at $99 a month, and LLM visibility comes in from the $199 Growth plan.

Pick Clione if the problem is your catalog: every product, category, collection and content page enriched, the JSON-LD graph, FAQs and meta written, published through your platform's own API into the HTML your server sends, and the live page read back to tell you what rendered.

Who sees the change

The two tools put their changes in different places, and that decides who reads them.

Search Atlas's own help articles do not agree on how OTTO's fixes land on Shopify. Its developer guide for the Shopify add-on describes a pixel, loaded on every page through a ScriptTag or an app embed: a JavaScript snippet that applies the changes in the visitor's browser, so anything that runs the script, a person or a crawler that renders pages, sees the result. Another article describes a sync that pushes deployed changes to the Shopify store through the connection, and names the title tag and the meta description. Which fixes take which route is not documented in the pages we read.

Clione writes through the platform. On Shopify the signals go into metafields and two app embeds render them; on BigCommerce the Widget API renders the graph server-side; on WooCommerce the Clione plugin prints them in the HTML the server sends on the first request. So a crawler that reads only the HTML, without running a script, reads them too.

Neither is a judgement on the other. It is a question of which readers you are writing for, and it is easy to test: fetch the page without JavaScript and see what is there.

Where Search Atlas is stronger

  • The whole SEO job. Backlinks, local SEO, digital PR and site-wide technical fixes. Clione does none of these.
  • More assistants measured. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode from the Growth plan, Perplexity and Copilot from Pro, against Clione's ChatGPT and Gemini.
  • Hands off, if you want it. OTTO runs on autopilot by default. Clione never pushes without a click.
  • Any site, not only a store. Search Atlas works beyond ecommerce, with a WordPress integration as well as Shopify.

Where Clione is different

  • In the HTML the server sends. Platform-native, server-rendered signals, readable without running a script.
  • It checks the page. After each push Clione reports what rendered against what it pushed, and warns when the platform or a PIM overwrites a field it wrote.
  • Catalog depth. A JSON-LD graph on every product page, FAQs across the catalog, keywords in your catalog's language, and an agent-readable document per product on your own domain.
  • It sends the catalog where shopping agents read it. A daily feed to ChatGPT shopping and a supplemental feed to Google Merchant Center.

Before you choose

What people ask when they weigh both.

How do I see the difference on my own store?

Fetch a product page without running JavaScript, the way curl does, and look for the structured data in what comes back. What Clione publishes is in that response: on Shopify through metafields and app embeds, on BigCommerce through the Widget API, on WooCommerce through the Clione plugin. A change a script makes in the browser is not.

Can I use both?

Yes, if you keep them off the same fields. Search Atlas for links, local SEO and the rest of the site; Clione for the catalog's structured data, FAQs and meta. If anything rewrites a field Clione pushed, the next sync names the field and the date.

Which one measures more AI assistants?

Search Atlas, on its higher plans: ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode from the Growth plan, Perplexity and Copilot from Pro. The Starter plan includes no LLM visibility projects. Clione asks ChatGPT and Gemini, and shows who they recommend instead of you.
