Clione vs Hypotenuse AI. One writes the content, the other makes it legible to machines.

Hypotenuse AI is a product information manager built around AI: it generates descriptions, attributes and SEO content in bulk, in your brand's voice and in every market's language. Clione writes the signals search engines and AI assistants read, publishes them through your platform's API and checks the live page. If the job is content at scale, start there. If it is being found and chosen by AI, start here.

The verdict

Pick Hypotenuse AI if the bottleneck is content: thousands of descriptions and attributes to write, in a consistent brand voice, in several languages, flowing out to your store, your marketplaces and your PIM. It is backed by Y Combinator and used by brands such as MediaMarkt, Billabong and Crunchyroll.

Pick Clione if the content exists and the problem is that search engines and AI assistants cannot read your catalog well enough to recommend it. Clione enriches every product, category and page, writes the JSON-LD graph, the FAQs and the meta, publishes them through your platform's own API, and reads the live page back to tell you what rendered.

Content is not the same as signals

Hypotenuse AI pitches its content as the way to rank in Google and get recommended by AI, and a great description does help. What an assistant or a crawler reads first, though, is the structure around it: the product graph, the questions and answers, the meta, the agent-readable document. Hypotenuse's site says it generates that layer too, as structured markup and FAQ schema. Clione writes it, publishes it through your platform's own API and then reads the live page to check it rendered.

The two also measure different things. Hypotenuse monitors product rankings across Google, Amazon, Walmart and more. Clione does not track rankings; it asks ChatGPT and Gemini the questions shoppers ask and shows whether they name your products, and who they name instead.

Where Hypotenuse AI is stronger

  • Content at scale, in more than 40 languages. Bulk descriptions and attributes, in your voice, localised for each market. Clione writes in your catalog's own language and does not translate.
  • Reach. Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, plus marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart and Target and PIMs such as Akeneo, Salsify and Stibo.
  • Proof. Y Combinator backing, well-known brands, and by its own count more than 500,000 ecommerce users. Clione is in beta.
  • Marketplace rankings. It monitors where products rank on Google, Amazon and Walmart. Clione does no rank tracking.

Where Clione is different

  • It writes what machines read. A JSON-LD graph on every product page, FAQs across the catalog, keywords, meta descriptions and a plain-text document per product on your own domain.
  • It checks the page. After each push Clione fetches the live page and reports what rendered against what it pushed, and warns when a PIM or the platform overwrites a field it wrote.
  • It tells you whether AI recommends you. ChatGPT and Gemini asked the shopper's question, and who replaces you when they stop naming you.
  • It sends the catalog where shopping agents read it. A daily feed to ChatGPT shopping and a supplemental feed to Google Merchant Center.

Before you choose

What people ask when they weigh both.

Can I use both?

Yes, and for a large catalog it can make sense: Hypotenuse AI for the descriptions and attributes, in more than 40 languages, Clione for the structured data, FAQs and meta on top of them. If Hypotenuse or your PIM rewrites a field Clione pushed, the next sync names the field and the date.

Does Clione translate my catalog?

No. Clione writes in your catalog's own language. If localisation is part of the job, Hypotenuse AI does it.

Which platforms does each one work on?

Clione works on Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, and on headless storefronts set up with your developers. Hypotenuse AI lists Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce among many more, plus marketplaces such as Amazon and Walmart and PIMs such as Akeneo and Salsify.
