Clione vs Describely. Better product content, or a catalog machines can read.
Describely is a Shopify app that researches the attributes your products are missing, writes titles, descriptions, meta tags and metafields in bulk, and publishes them to your store. Clione enriches every product, category and page, publishes the signals through your platform's API and reads the live page back to tell you what rendered. If the gaps are in your product data, start there. If they are in what AI can read, start here.

The verdict
Pick Describely if you are on Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix or Squarespace and your product data has holes: attributes nobody filled in, thin descriptions, missing meta tags. It researches what is missing, writes the content in bulk, audits the catalog for Google and AI search and publishes to your store in a few clicks. Its price is per product, which suits a large catalog you want to work through at your own pace.
Pick Clione if your product data is in reasonable shape and the problem is what search engines and AI assistants can read from it. Clione enriches every product, category, collection and content page, writes the JSON-LD graph, the FAQs and the meta, publishes them through your platform's own API, and reads the live page back to tell you what rendered.
Publishing is not the last step
Describely and Clione both write to Shopify metafields. A metafield is only data until the theme, or an app, prints it on the page, and that is where catalogs quietly lose work.
Clione handles both halves. Its two app embeds, "Clione SEO" and "Clione FAQ", render the graph in the head and the accordion in the body, switched on from the dashboard in one click. Then Clione fetches the live page, compares what rendered with what it pushed, and alerts you when a verified signal goes missing.
Where Describely is stronger
- Filling real gaps in product data. It researches and fills in missing attributes, which is enrichment at the source. Clione learns each product from your answers and documents rather than researching it.
- The copy itself. Titles, descriptions and bullets, written in bulk. Clione writes the signals around the copy.
- Start small, today. A free plan for 5 products and pay-as-you-go at $0.75 per product generation, with published prices. Clione is in beta with selected clients.
Where Clione is different
- It covers the whole store. Products, categories, collections and content pages, with FAQs across the catalog.
- It checks the page and keeps versions. Live-page verification, overwrite warnings with the field and the date, and the last three versions with a restore.
- It tells you whether AI recommends you. ChatGPT and Gemini asked the shopper's question, and who replaces you when they stop naming you.
- It sends the catalog where shopping agents read it. A daily feed to ChatGPT shopping and a supplemental feed to Google Merchant Center.
- BigCommerce and headless. Clione works on Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, and headless set up with you. Describely's pricing page lists Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and Squarespace, not BigCommerce.

Facts about Describely were read on 15 October 2026 from its Shopify App Store listing, its pricing page and its knowledge-base article on search optimisation. What people ask when they weigh both.
Can I use both?
Yes, if you decide which one owns which field. Describely for the attributes and the product copy, Clione for the structured data, FAQs and meta on top of them. If anything rewrites a field Clione pushed, the next sync names the field and the date.
Who checks that the theme shows what was published?
With Clione, on Shopify, two app embeds render the signals from metafields, and after each push Clione fetches the live page and reports, signal by signal, what rendered. Describely publishes metafields to Shopify; we found no public description of a check on the storefront page, so it is worth asking.
Which platforms does each one work on?
Describely works on Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and Squarespace, and connects to Akeneo and CSV files. Clione works on Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, and on headless storefronts set up with your developers.
