Mechanism first, vocabulary last: by the time you reach the acronyms, you will know what sits under each one. The path has five stretches.

1. **Steps 1 to 8 · Where your customer finds you.** The screens where a buyer gets an answer instead of a list of links, inside and outside Google, and what is at stake: [zero-click search](/glossary/zero-click-search/), the answer that arrives without the visit.
2. **Steps 9 to 17 · How an answer is built.** What happens between the question and the text your customer reads: how it splits into several searches, how pages get picked, and why a model that doesn't lean on them makes up a detail about your product. It starts at [search intent](/glossary/search-intent/), the foundation of classic SEO.
3. **Steps 18 to 22 · What content ends up in the answer.** What Google says it uses and what it treats as spam. Step 20, [scaled content abuse](/glossary/scaled-content-abuse/), is the rule a catalog written with AI has to respect.
4. **Steps 23 to 27 · What the work of showing up there is called.** The names you will hear for that work. It closes with [the comparison that sets them against each other](/comparisons/geo-aeo-seo/) and its verdict: what really changes for a store.
5. **Steps 28 to 36 · Going deeper.** Nine terms for anyone who wants to keep going: other names in circulation for what you have already seen, and the technical pieces under an answer.

This is the first of the [seven reading paths](/learn/), and the one to read before the others.
